Crystal stitch markers: an introduction

If you follow me on Instagram you will have seen by now that I’ve started selling stitch markers featuring precious stones, or crystals. Crystals are something that have fascinated me since childhood. I would spend ages looking at them in gift shops and museums, and was sometimes allowed to spend my pocket money a few small stones before we would make the trip back home.

I swore to myself that I would have an extensive collection one day when I was big enough and had plenty of my own money. That promise has only recently come back to me as I’m reconnecting with ‘little Lois’ and rediscovering the magic in these beautiful rocks.

In one of those serendipitous moments, an idea came to me to use the stones from a broken bracelet and turn them into stitch markers. From there a collection grew and I now offer 8 different precious stones, each with their own beauty and meaning. Here is a break down of what makes them so special…

clear quartz

  • The stone of power - this crystal amplifies any energy or intention.

  • It supports you in creating a vision of your life that is unique to you.

  • Clear quartz purifies on all levels: spiritual, emotional, mental and physical.

  • This stone is known to harmonize and balance.

rose quartz

  • The stone of universal love - it purifies and opens the heart.

  • Rose quartz promotes love, friendship, self-love, deep inner-healing and feelings of peace.

  • The light pink hue represents gentleness, femininity and compassion.

  • It promotes forgiveness, restores trust and harmony in relationships and encourages unconditional love.

amethyst

  • The stone of peace - it relieves stress and strain, soothes irritability and balances mood swings.

  • It helps the mind flow freely.

  • A grounding stone, it promotes tranquility and calm.

  • It is also believed to dispel anger, rage, fear and anxiety.

blue lace agate

  • This is a nurturing and supportive stone.

  • It promotes forgiveness, enhances empathy and encourages healthy friendships and relationships.

  • Blue lace agate boosts communication and helps with speaking your truth.

  • It is believed to bring calm and peace of mind.

  • A stone to support personal growth.

green aventurine

  • The stone of opportunity - it is meant to stimulate willpower and confidence.

  • It helps you to release old habits and patterns and to embrace changes.

  • It promotes strength, confidence, courage and happiness.

  • Green aventurine is also known as a stone that encourages compassionate behaviour.

citrine

  • This beautiful stone is associated joy, happiness and light.

  • It helps you to attract wealth, prosperity, abundance and success.

  • It is believed to help you embrace positivity and optimism.

  • Citrine promotes motivation, it activates creativity and encourages self-expression.

carnelian

  • Known as the artists stone - it stimulates creativity.

  • Carnelian is believed to restore vitality and motivation.

  • A stabilising stone, it is meant to help with trusting yourself and your perceptions.

  • It gives courage, dispels apathy and motivates you for success.

smoky quartz

  • This grounding stone is meant to bring connection to the natural world.

  • It disperses fear, lifts negativity, brings emotional calmness and helps to relieve stress and anxiety.

  • Smoky quartz promotes positive thoughts and actions; helping you to relax, reconnect and regain composure.

  • This stone represents stability and security.


Which ever stone you are drawn to, it is interesting to look into the meaning behind them and how they can help you focus your thoughts and intentions. I think they make a beautiful reminder to be more conscious of our thoughts whilst we’re enjoying some mindful crochet (or knitting!).
